This October, the Colorado PUC dismissed LPEA and United’s complaints against Tri-State over their exit fees, saying that federal regulators under FERC have jurisdiction. While this is a blow to LPEA, it’s not game over. There’s still another way to hold Tri-State accountable for its actions and work towards cleaner, cheaper power.
Colorado Emissions Roadmap
This December, the state of Colorado will discuss their roadmap for emissions discussion. This is a huge opportunity to hold Tri-State accountable for cleaner power. The best and fastest way for Colorado to reach its bold emissions goals is to accelerate its shift away from coal-fired electricity. The electric sector will need an 80& reduction in emissions for Colorado to reach its goals, which means that Tri-State will need That means that Tri-State will need to enact a bolder emissions reduction plan and think more seriously about transitioning to renewable power.
There will be opportunities for you to have your voice heard during this process, so stay tuned! As Colorado moves closer to a plan for emissions reductions, it will be critical that we let them know we want cleaner, cheaper power to be a priority.
