It’s time. Time to take action on Wolf Creek. (not that we haven’t been taking it all along… but you know what I mean.)
Next week we are sending a delegation to Washington, D.C. to meet with our elected officials and officials from various departments entrusted with protecting Wolf Creek Pass. Our ask is simple: for the Chief of the U.S. Forest Service, Tom Tidwell, to issue a stay of the land exchange that paves the way for the destruction of Wolf Creek Pass.

REGIONAL DELEGATION TRAVELS TO WASHINGTON D.C. TO RAISE AWARENESS OF THE “PILLAGE” AT WOLF CREEK
Local Actions Planned In Support Of Delegates
DURANGO, CO – June 18, 2013 – Representatives from San Juan Citizens Alliance, Chama Peak Land Alliance, Wildlands Network, and others are traveling to Washington, D.C. next week to raise awareness of recent U.S. Forest Service decisions that pave the way for the destruction of Wolf Creek Pass.
The delegates will be supported by the actions of hundreds of community members mailing, emailing, and phoning officials to amplify the delegates’ call for the Chief of the Forest Service, Thomas Tidwell, to issue a stay of his agency’s Record of Decision approving a controversial land exchange with the Leavell-McCombs Joint Venture development company.
In addition to a web-based letter writing campaign hosted by San Juan Citizens Alliance and an online petition hosted by Friends Of Wolf Creek, San Luis Valley Ecosystem Council is hosting an all-day event on Wolf Creek Pass Saturday, June 20th. The event, Art for the Endangered Landscape, is an opportunity for artists and outdoor enthusiasts to document and honor the beauty and majesty of the Pass. Live music by reggae band Jah Kings and a catered lunch will be provided.
“We have hundreds of supporters that have been asking us for months how they can get involved in the fight to protect Wolf Creek Pass,” said Dan Olson, Executive Director of the San Juan Citizens Alliance. “This trip presents an opportunity for all of our voices to be heard. Speak now and strengthen the delegates’ message. No pillage at Wolf Creek. Not 30 years ago. Not today. Not on our watch.”
