Public Lands

If we don't protect our public lands, no one else will.
Be an advocate for wild places.

The Alliance is the local watchdog group for management decisions on public lands. We work with multiple stakeholder groups to advocate for land management practices that protect wildlife, wild places, and the ecological resilience necessary to adapt to a rapidly changing climate.

Why We Work on Public Lands

Roads, recreation, fire management and timber harvesting can all impact the quality of the air as well as the vistas we value in the Four Corners.

We must not love our land to death. Ensuring travel, recreation and fire management respect our cultural and archaeological resources, wildlife and landscape resiliency is essential.

Healthy lands create resilient watersheds, feeding and protecting healthy rivers. Fire, forest, and recreation management can threaten rivers and fish with enhanced erosion, so should be managed with rivers in mind.

Wilderness is not a luxury but a necessity of the human spirit.

Edward Abbey

The wilderness and the idea of wilderness is one of the permanent homes of the human spirit.

Joseph Wood Krutch

Look deep into nature, and then you will understand everything better.
