Many animals inspire us, serving as symbols of strength, pride, and future hope. The last of Colorado’s grizzly bears died, here in the San Juans, in the late 1970s. But, among our surviving species are desert bighorn sheep – for which there has been a recent call for a National Petroglyph to celebrate their bio-cultural relevance through inscriptions in rock. Bighorns today still face obstacles. Among them are changing landscapes, the growing human footprint, and wild recreational activities in many forms. Can they adapt? This is what Joel Berger will describe with photos, video, and a lively presentation.
